In computing, a Mac address stands for Media Access Control address. The Mac Address identifies a specific device on a computer network. Each computer has their own unique MAC address. Your MAC address is assigned by the manufacturer.
MAC addresses are not passed across the internet and cannot be recovered with the same ease as ip addresses, however they do reveal an exact user on a network. For instance, the mac address can be used by the administrator of a wireless network to see who is on the network at any given time.
