Self Surveillance

When was the last time you used your camera phone? Did you upload any photos online today? Update your status on twitter/myspace/bebo/facebook? Write a blog entry? Watch the news? After the plane crashed into the Hudson River only a few weeks ago news of the disaster was on twitter within 14 seconds. People have been so consumed with documenting the happenings of real life that that a strange new socially acceptable surveillance has come into vogue.

We have embraced surveillance and have created a world where we watch each other through our social media. In letting the world know what we are doing, we are opening ourselves to unfriendly eyes and those eyes will be able to see the information we reveal long after we try to remove it.

i hate the idea of being watched... i know surveillance cameras can come in handy in some situations but you never know who else might have their hands on surveillance tapes and who those people are. its really hard to trust people in the world we live in now, and its scary what people can get away with and never get caught.
